This is our dream home, almost. For me our true dream home would consist of a lazy river running along the perimeter with ice cream stops, and for Jeff the house would need a beer room. Maybe one day, but for now we are happy with our creation. In October of 2010 we purchased a lot in the Houston Heights’ neighborhood and moved in 8 months later. From the layout, to the tile, to the toilet paper holders, we designed it all and couldn’t be happier with the results.
Everyone warned us that building a house is stressful, especially during your first year of marriage! And that we should expect it to take double the amount of time planned and to go way over budget. Thankfully to our incredible builders (Robert Sanders Homes), the house was done on time and in budget. Instead of being stressful, it was actually a lot of fun and we hope to have the opportunity to do it again one day. It was so much fun watching the house take shape, and we were fortunate to be able to stop by the site almost every day. We feel so blessed to have found an awesome builder and to have had this experience!
Choosing an exterior color was tough! There's so much to consider like the neighbors' houses and foliage, but we ended up with King's Point (Jeff's alma mater) colors...I swear we didn't intend to! We love the barn lights over the garage, the exposed rafter tails, and overall elevation. We also love our huge Pine tree! During the build we learned that there was a sewer leak by this lovely tree, so for years it was getting extra "nutrients". Hopefully it continues to stay healthy now that the leak is fixed, because that tree provides some awesome shade during the hot summer months.
Interior pics to come…
